IND v BAN 2024: Second Test of Bangladesh series in Kanpur to go ahead as planned amidst protest threat- Report

Bangladesh is visiting India for a series of two Tests to be played in Chennai and Kanpur.

Reports have stated that the Hindu Mahasabha group has threatened to protest at the venue against the visiting team.

The second Test in Kanpur was threatened by a possible protest by the Hindu Mahasabha against the visiting side, Bangladesh, citing the political turmoil that has been going on within the country.

On the other hand, BCCI had reportedly stated that the second Test in Kanpur would continue as announced earlier and there were no changes in plans. The board also monitored the situation consistently.

Yes, we are monitoring and with the concerned authorities as far as those threats are concerned but we have done everything to hold that match and the stadium is ready to welcome our visitors said it’s not going anywhere it will be in Kanpur but will keep monitoring the situation not only in Kanpur but also at the other venues,” a BCCI official was quoted by Sports Tak.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh are coming into this Test series on a high after defeating Pakistan 2-0 in their own home in the Test series. This was the first time Bangladesh beat Pakistan in a Test and a Test series.

On the other hand, India will be playing their first Test match since the England series ended in March this year.

BCCI has announced the Indian squad for the first Test to be playing in Chennai on September 19. The team sees the return of Rishabh Pant in Test format for the first time since December 2022.

Jasprit Bumrah was also included in the Indian squad contrary to reports stating that the pacer would be rested for this Test series. Among the big names that are returning to the side include, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul.

The former had taken an extended break due to the birth of his second child while the latter who was part of the home series against England was ruled out midway due to injury.
