Former Indian cricketer-turned-commentator Rohan Gavaskar lauded Rohit Sharma’s captaincy after he led Team India to a 3-0 win in the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan at home.
After facing setbacks in the first two T20I matches, Rohit made a stunning comeback with the bat in Bengaluru, scoring an impressive 121 not out off 69 balls against Afghanistan in the third T20I.
Teaming up with finisher Rinku Singh (69* off 39), Rohit played a crucial role in rescuing India from a tough situation, leading the hosts to victory in a double Super Over thriller. His record-breaking fifth T20I century and an unbeaten 190-run partnership with Rinku played a big role in the team’s win.

With this T20I series win, Rohit equaled MS Dhoni’s record for most wins as the Indian skipper, and Gavaskar hailed his captaincy and strategic acumen.
Rohan Gavaskar was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz: “If he has a higher winning percentage than MS and Virat, that tells you what a good captain he is.”
Gavaskar further highlighted Rohit and Rinku’s ability to adapt their game plan after the team found itself at 22/4 in Bengaluru.
He noted, “What I really liked about this innings is that generally you say in a T20I game now - the template is to go bang bang bang from the word go.”
He signed off by saying, “And that is the template that is set. But both Rohit and Rinku used their cricketing intelligence at 22-4 and said no. We can get runs later on, but let's just give ourselves a little bit of time.”
