India's Captain Rohit Sharma shared insights into the team selection for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024, saying it will be difficult to keep everyone happy and satisfied. Rohit’s comments came after Team India's nail-biting victory against Afghanistan in the 3rd T20I in Bengaluru.
Rohit was the standout performer of the thrilling encounter, scoring a record-breaking fifth T20I hundred against Afghanistan. After the match, Rohit opened up about the challenges of selection for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, stressing the importance of maintaining clarity within the team.
After winning the T20I series by a 3-0 margin, the Indian skipper revealed that they have not yet finalized their squad for the T20 World Cup 2024, which will be held in the USA and West Indies.
Rohit Sharma said at the post-match presentation: “We have not finalized the 15-member squad but there are 8-10 players in our minds. So, we will make our combinations according to the conditions. In the West Indies, the conditions are slow, so we'll have to pick our team accordingly. As far as Rahul Dravid and I are concerned, we've tried to maintain clarity. We try to tell them why they've been selected or not been selected even after putting in performances.”
He signed off by saying, “You can't keep everyone happy, that is what I've learnt in my time as captain. You can keep 15 players happy. Then also, only 11 are happy. The four players sitting on the bench also ask why they're not playing. I've learnt that you can't keep everyone happy, and the focus should be on the team's goal.”
Notably, India will next take on England in the five-match Test series, starting on January 25 in Hyderabad.
