The first T20I between India and West Indies saw a masterclass in chasing from Indian captain Virat Kohli, aided by KL Rahul, as the home side went 1-0 up with a 6-wicket win.
West Indies put on 207/5 after being put in to bat by Kohli. Shimron Hetmyer hit 56, while Evin Lewis (40), Pollard (37), and Holder (24* in 9 balls) contributed majorly. Yuzvendra Chahal picked 2/36, while Sundar, Chahar, and Jadeja picked a wicket apiece. Indian fielding was abysmal, with Sundar dropping 2 catches and Rohit one.
In the chase, Rohit got out for 8, but Rahul (62, 5 fours and 4 sixes) headed the chase, while Kohli struggled to get bat to the ball, adding 100 runs for the second wicket. However, after Rahul got out to Pierre; Kohli transformed into a hitting machine. He slammed his highest T20I score of 94* with 6 fours and 6 sixes, and showed a special liking for Kesrick Williams, mocking him in his own celebration style.
He took the Men in Blue to their highest successful chase of 208 with 6 wickets in hand, ending on 209/4 with 1.2 overs to spare. The cricket fraternity was amazed by his scintillating innings as he won India yet another game chasing. They lauded the Indian captain for his knock on Twitter.
