Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan is likely to be ruled out of the three-match T20I series against West Indies, according to a report in Sportstar. Sanju Samson is set to be named as replacement after he was initially dropped without even getting an opportunity to play against Bangladesh.

Dhawan injured his left knee while playing for Delhi against Maharashtra in the Super League of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He had dived to make his crease when a piece of wood in his batting pad pierced his knee and made a deep cut. He realised about the bleeding on the wound after completing his innings and received multiple stitches on the cut.

MSK Prasad, who was in Surat, had a chat with NCA physio Ashish Kaushik and have come to the conclusion that the 33-year-old Dhawan won't be able to recover in time for the 1st T20I on December 6 in Hyderabad.

Harbhajan Singh and Shashi Tharoor had expressed their disappointment after Sanju Samson was left out of the squad. Samson himself posted a tweet with an emoji suggesting that he was dejected to be left out. It now seems he will have an opportunity to make a statement if he indeed is drafted into the squad as expected.

It remains to be seen whether Shikhar Dhawan will be available for the three-match ODI series starting on December 15.
