Indian skipper Virat Kohli wanted his team's batting line up to be better tested and hence, he decided to bowl second despite the expected dew prevailing conditions in the night at Vizag, said Ian Bishop.

The former West Indies fast bowler, who is in India commentating for the ongoing the series, believes that although, the visitors were helped significantly by the under-lights atmosphere in the admirable run-chase and tie, it was invariably India which gained substantially by testing their batting resolves in the first innings, where Virat himself scored 157*.

“I can’t really think of any other reason as to why Kohli despite knowing history would do what he did. So, I think he wanted to test his team somehow,” Bishop said on a Star Sports show.

Bishop also thinks that the outstanding 143-run fourth wicket partnership between the young duo of Shimron Hetmyer(94 off 64) and Shai Hope(123* off 134 balls) was inspired by the one stretched together from Virat and Rohit Sharma in the first ODI at Guwahati.

“I agree. His(Virat) message is quite clear, and the West Indies guys were saying he is a great player, and if I want to be a great player too, this is what I have to do,” Bishop added.

The third ODI at Pune takes place on Saturday, October 27.
