A lot of fans and cricket pundits who were disappointed with Shubman Gill not getting selected in the Indian squad for the West Indies tour were really happy to see Gill get selected for the home Test series against South Africa. Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly was one of them as he told the youngster to make the most of this opportunity if it comes his way.

I have nothing much to say in selection matters, but all the best to Shubman. Now that he has been selected for the India squad, I wish he does well,” Ganguly told The Telegraph on Thursday.

While talking about the 20-year-old Gill, Ganguly said, “Age is on his side. He is a youngster with loads of talent and has the right approach. I believe Gill will succeed if he gets a chance (to play in any of the Test matches).

The right-hand batsman has been really consistent while playing for India A as on the tour of the Caribbean in July and August, he hit a 69 at Coolidge and followed it up with an unbeaten 204 in a four-day game at Tarouba.

Shubman Gill became the youngest to score a first-class double century for an Indian representative team

While Gill’s selection meant Bengal captain Abhimanyu Easwaran missed out. Ganguly suggested Easwaran to wait for his chance as he said, “Look, he is still a young boy. He will definitely get his chance, so not to worry. I can’t say why he wasn’t selected, as selectors can answer that question.
