Shubman Gill smashed a double century in rather quick time to put India ‘A’ in a commanding position in the third unofficial Test against West Indies ‘A’ at Brian Lara Stadium, Trinidad on Thursday (August 8).

With this herculean knock, Gill also became the youngest to score a first-class double century for an Indian representative team. At the age of 19 years and 334 days, Shubman shattered the record of Gautam Gambhir, who had hit a double ton for India’s Board President XI’s team against Zimbabweans in 2002.

Coming into bat at 14/2, Gill scored an unbeaten 204 runs from 250 deliveries with 19 fours and two sixes. The stylish right-hander shared an unbeaten 315-run partnership for the fifth wicket with India ‘A’ skipper Hanuma Vihari, who also struck 118 runs from 219 deliveries including 10 fours and one six.

The mammoth partnership between Gill and Vihari helped India ‘A’ set a target of 373 for the West Indies ‘A’. At the end of day three, the hosts were 37/0, needing 336 more runs to win the match on the final day.

Having won the first two matches, India ‘A’ has already taken an unassailable lead in the unofficial Test series.

Brief Scores:

India ‘A’ – 201 & 365/4 declared (Shubman Gill 204*, Hanuma Vihari 118*)

West Indies ‘A’ - 194 & 37/0 (Krishnappa Gowtham 6/67)
