IND v NZ 2023: “There isn't any kind of fatigue,” Shubman Gill keen to play all formats for India

Gill slammed his maiden T20I ton in the series-decider in Ahmedabad.

Shubman Gill | BCCIYoung batter Shubman Gill on Wednesday (February 1) expressed his desire to play all three formats for the Indian team as he feels that there is no question of fatigue while representing the country.

Gill’s comments came after his whirlwind century in the third and final T20I scripted India’s resounding 168-run victory, thereby a 2-1 series win over New Zealand.

Opening the innings, Shubman slammed 126 not out off 63 balls, propelling the hosts to a mammoth 234/4 in 20 overs. With this knock, he also became only the fifth Indian batter after Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Virat Kohli to hit a century across formats.

"When you are representing your country, there isn't any kind of fatigue. When you get to represent your country in all three formats, I believe, there shouldn't be any fatigue but thankful to God," Gill said at the post-match presentation.

The lanky right-hander also credited Hardik Pandya for showing faith on him, saying that the Indian captain’s advice to continue his natural game paid off.

"Yeah, it feels good when you practice and it pays off. I was backing myself to get the big ones in the Sri Lanka series and in the ODI series. It doesn't happen always but great to get it now. I mean everybody has a different technique to hit those sixes. Hardik bhai told me to keep batting the way I do. And it paid off," Gill further added.

Coming to the third T20I, Indian fast bowlers, led by skipper Hardik Pandya, ran through the Kiwi batting line-up, bundling out the visitors for a paltry 66 in 12.1 overs.

While Hardik returned with his career-best T20I figures of 4 for 16 in his four overs, the pace troika of Umran Malik (2-9), Arshdeep Singh (2-16), and Shivam Mavi (2-12) picked two scalps each as India registered their biggest ever win in T20Is in terms of margin of runs.
