As Team India is gearing up to take on New Zealand in the three-match T20I series opener at the JSCA International Stadium in Ranchi on Friday (January 27), local lad Ishan Kishan opened up about a few interesting things about himself, including the secret behind his national jersey.
In a video shared by the BCCI on Twitter on January 26, Kishan revealed that he wanted to take the number 23 for his jersey, but it was already taken by the senior spinner Kuldeep Yadav, so he had to take the no. 32 for his India jersey.
The youngster also revealed that the 32 number was his mother’s choice.
Ishan can be heard narrating the story behind his jersey number in the video: “I actually asked for Number 23 but Kuldeep Yadav already got that number. So, I was supposed to take any other number. I called my mom and she asked me to get 32. So, I didn’t ask any other questions and went for it.”
The left-hander further revealed that he decided to become a professional cricketer at the age of 14 when he moved to Jharkhand, and his first goal was to play for India Under-19. Now, he is really happy to be a part of the senior Indian cricket team and is hoping for a very long journey.
Speaking about his cricketing idol, the 24-year-old said: “My favorite cricketing idol while growing up was MS Dhoni. Coming from the same place, me also playing for Jharkhand. So, I really wanted to fill his shoes and now that I’m here, I’ll make sure that I make my team win so many games.”
Recalling his memorable moment of getting MS Dhoni’s autograph, the youngster said: “The first autograph that I had asked for was from MS Dhoni when I was 18 years old and I finally saw him for the first time. It was a dream come true for me and the most memorable moment for me and it still is. I am proud to have his autograph on my bat.”
Ishan also said that he doesn’t fear anything while revealing that his favorite cuisine is Japanese, and he loves everything about Japanese food.
