IND v NZ 2023: Cricket fraternity reacts as India dethrone New Zealand from top ODI spot with clean sweep

The Men in Blue crushed New Zealand by 90 runs in the third and final ODI at Indore.

India outplayed New Zealand in the third ODI | BCCITeam India completed a 3-0 whitewash over New Zealand with an emphatic 90-run victory in the third and final ODI at Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore on Tuesday (January 24).

Asked to bat first, the hosts piled up a gigantic 385/9 in their stipulated 50 overs on the back of stunning centuries from Shubman Gill (112 off 78 balls) and Rohit Sharma (101 off 85 balls).

Amid the carnage, Lockie Ferguson (0-53) and Mitchell Santner (0-58) returned with economical bowling figures for the visitors while Blair Tickner picked three scalps by conceding 76 runs in his 10 overs.

In reply, New Zealand’s innings folded for 295 in 41.2 overs. Devon Conway was the lone warrior with the bat, scoring 138 off 100 balls with 12 fours and 8 sixes. Besides Conway, no Kiwi batter managed to touch the 50-run mark.

Shardul Thakur (3-45) and Kuldeep Yadav (3-62) ran through the Black Caps batting line-up with three wickets each while Yuzvendra Chahal (2-43), Hardik Pandya (1-37) and Umran Malik (1-52) shared the remaining four scalps among them.

With this thumping victory, the Men in Blue also dethroned New Zealand from the top spot in the ICC ODI team rankings.

For their clinical performance, the Rohit Sharma-led side received rich praise from the cricket fraternity on Twitter.
