India head coach Rahul Dravid denied that the team management has adopted the split captaincy, especially after Hardik Pandya captained India in all T20Is post the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.
Since India was given an unceremonious exit from the ICC event in the semi-final, the three big guns captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul have not played in the T20I matches since. They missed the T20Is in New Zealand and at home against Sri Lanka and will not feature in the upcoming New Zealand T20Is at home as well.
In Rohit's absence, Hardik Pandya has led the Indian T20 side and is also seen as the front-runner to captain the team in the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Reports have emerged that the selectors and BCCI is likely to move forward with Hardik as the leader in the shortest format of the game, with them letting Rohit, Kohli, and Rahul decide their future in T20Is.
"Not that I am aware of (India adopting split captaincy). That's a question you need to ask the selectors but as of now, I don't think so," Dravid said at the pre-match press conference ahead of the 3rd ODI between India and New Zealand.
Earlier this month, Dravid himself had called for patience as the Indian T20 team goes through a rebuilding phase hinting that it could be the end of the road for the likes of Kohli, Rohit, and Rahul.
Meanwhile, Rohit had said that he hasn't taken a call on his T20 future and will wait until after the IPL 2023 before making a decision.
