India registered a nerve-wracking 12-run victory over New Zealand in the first ODI at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on Wednesday (January 18).
Riding on Shubman Gill’s remarkable 208 off 149 balls, the Men in Blue racked up a mammoth 349/8 in their allotted 50 overs.
In reply, the Kiwis were reeling at 131/6 and it seemed that the hosts will cruise towards an easy victory. However, Michael Bracewell (140 off 78 balls) turned the game upside down with a blazing century.
In the end, the Indian bowling attack, led by Mohammed Siraj (4-46), hold its nerves and bundled out the tourists for 337 in 49.2 overs.
India will now look to seal the three-match series with a victory in the second ODI in Raipur on Saturday (January 21).
Ahead of the game, wrist-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal gave a sneak peek into the Indian dressing room while speaking in a video posted on BCCI’s Twitter handle. However, it was the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma who stole the limelight with his unplanned appearance.
"Yeh humara massage table hai. Jab bhi kisi ko back relief ya koi treatment chahiye hota hai, toh vo iss table pe hota hai. (This is our massage table. Whenever someone needs back relief or any kind of treatment, then it is given on this table)," Chahal can be heard saying in the video.
Just when Chahal completed talking about the massage table, Rohit walked in from behind and said, "Acha future hai tera (Your future is bright).
Chahal was taken aback by Rohit’s comments as he shook hands with the Indian captain before bursting into laughter.
