India and New Zealand faced off in the second of the three-ODI series which is being played at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium, Raipur, on January 21, which is hosting its first international cricket match.
India leads 1-0 in the series after an entertaining 12-run win in the first match in Hyderabad and will look to seal yet another ODI series at home by winning this second match and going 2-0 up in the series.
The toss was going to be important for either captain and it was the home team skipper Rohit Sharma who called correctly and won the toss.
However, when the time came to give his decision on what he will be doing after winning the toss, Rohit glitched a bit, as he seemingly forgot what the team had decided to do after winning the toss.
After a few seconds of him trying to remember the decision, with New Zealand skipper Tom Latham and match-referee Javagal Srinath looking on eagerly, Rohit said that India will bowl first and the two captains shook hands with big smiles on their faces.
Ravi Shastri, the presenter, asked Rohit what happened while conversing with him and the Indian captain said: “I forgot what we wanted to do, had plenty of discussions with the team about the toss decision, just wanted to challenge ourselves under difficult conditions, but we'll bowl first.
Was a good test for us, knowing that the wicket will get better to bat on and that was the challenge in front of us. Bracewell batted well, but we bowled well in the end and won the game. There was a bit of dew during the practice sessions, but we've heard from the curator that it will not play a role on game days. We batted first in Hyderabad, we wanted to bowl first here, same team."
