The BCCI, on Friday, January 13 announced the Indian squad for the white-ball series against New Zealand which begins on January 18 onwards.
The squad didn’t have many surprises besides KS Bharat getting called up in the ODI side and Prithvi Shaw being recalled in the T20I squad. Shaw has played only one T20I against Sri Lanka in 2021 and was dismissed for a first-ball duck on his debut.
As soon as the news of his inclusion broke, cricket fans on social media were ecstatic as Shaw recently scored a record 379 for Mumbai against Assam in the ongoing Ranji Trophy match in Guwahati. This is the second-highest score in Ranji Trophy after Bhausahab Nimbalkar’s 443* and the highest by a batter from the Mumbai team, beating Sanjay Manjrekar’s 377.
Last year, Shaw was probably hoping for a recall and he shared Sai Baba's pic after being ignored for New Zealand and Bangladesh tours.
Speaking to PTI, the youngster said: “I think that post was just about if he (Sai Baba) is watching or not. That wasn’t for anyone. It was a deeply personal thing."
“I use social media but all my posts are done by my manager, he handles my stories and posts. I don't really see what’s going on. I try and shut myself from all this stuff and if I am doing things right and my processes right, this kind of day will come again and again," he added.
The cricket fans who had clamored for his inclusion in the Indian team took to Twitter to show their love for the cricketer and used his devotion towards Sai Baba in their posts.
