IND v AUS 2023: ‘Suryakumar ahead of Sarfaraz in Tests is insult to domestic cricket’- Fans slam selection committee

Fans were very unhappy with Sarfaraz Khan being ignored for the Australia Tests.

Fans were very unhappy with Sarfaraz Khan being ignored for the Australia Tests | TwitterThe BCCI on Friday night, January 13, announced the India squad for the first two Test matches of the four-match series against Australia.

Apart from this, the board cricket governing body also announced the squad for the upcoming white-ball series against New Zealand that will kick off on January 18 before India host Australia in the longest format.

While Prithvi Shaw was recalled into the T20I side, Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan earned call-ups to the Indian Test team for Australia Tests.

However, fans were extremely unhappy with the selectors for leaving out Mumbai’s Sarfaraz Khan despite him scoring buckets of runs in domestic red-ball cricket. In the 2021-22 Ranji Trophy, Sarfaraz scored 982 runs at an average of 122.75 with four centuries and two half-centuries. His highest score was 275.

In the ongoing Ranji Trophy tournament, Sarfaraz has amassed 431 runs at an average of 107.75 and a strike rate of 70.54 with two centuries, and one half-century.

Therefore when the BCCI selectors led by Chetan Sharma, picked Suryakumar Yadav over Sarfaraz Khan, probably due to his white-ball form for India, fans shared their anger on social media and called for justice for Sarfaraz Khan.
