Karnataka speedster Prasidh Krishna has earned a maiden call-up to the India squad for the upcoming three-match One Day International (ODI) series against England starting March 23 in Pune.

Apart from Krishna, Suryakumar Yadav and Krunal Pandya are two other new faces in India’s 18-member squad for the upcoming ODI series against England announced by the All-India Senior Selection Committee led by Chetan Sharma on Friday (March 19).

The three-match ODI series between India and England is scheduled for March 23, 26, and 28 with all matches to be played at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.

The right-arm pacer was awarded an India call-up following his brilliant performance in the domestic circuit over the years especially after his recent 14-wicket haul in the Vijay Hazare Trophy for Karnataka and he is very excited to join the national team and rub shoulders with them.

The 25-year-old has played 9 first-class matches and picked 34 wickets at an impressive average of 20.26 with one five-wicket haul while played 48 List A games (81 wickets at 23.07) and 40 T20 games (33 wickets at 35.84) for Karnataka so far. Krishna has been a part of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) since 2018 and played 24 matches in the IPL, picking 18 wickets till date.

Prasidh told Sportstar, “I am very excited to be part of the Indian squad. The team is made of such greats and I am looking forward to rubbing shoulders with them.”

He could have received a national call earlier if a stress fracture in his left leg towards the end of 2019 had not hampered him and then an elbow niggle forced him to play just six games in IPL 2020.

The pacer further said, “I am happy I went through the grind and faced all the difficulties I did. The experience that it gives you is invaluable. Vijay Hazare went well for me recently. And I should also thank Karnataka for helping me with this.”

Krishna also insisted that he isn’t building any expectations after the India call-up as he is focusing on expressing himself if he gets the opportunity to play against England at home.

He signed off by saying, “I am not building any expectations. I just want to express myself and not lose out on the enjoyment.”
