IND v ENG 2021: David Lloyd questions ICC as governing body rates Ahmedabad pitch for 3rd Test as ‘average’

Ahmedabad pitch had come under the scanner as the Day-Night Test finished inside two days.

England were bowled out for 112 and 81 in the pink-ball Test | BCCIFormer England cricketer-turned-commentator David Lloyd on Tuesday (March 16) expressed his shock at ICC’s decision to rate the Ahmedabad pitch for the third Test between India and England as ‘average’.

On Sunday (March 14), the governing body rated the much-debated track at the Narendra Modi Stadium as 'average'.

The pink-ball Test had finished inside two days with the hosts winning it by 10 wickets. England were bowled out for 112 and 81, while India scored 145 in the first innings before chasing a 49-run target without any hiccup.

“One big question for @ICC. If that is an ‘average’ pitch is it ok for all pitches around the world to be just like that with a disintegrated surface from ball one? I don’t expect an answer, by the way,” Lloyd wrote on Twitter.

Apart from Llyod, former England captains such as Michael Vaughan, Andrew Strauss and Sir Alastair Cook had also criticized the nature of the pitch for the Day-Night Test.

In fact, Vaughan had slammed the International Cricket Council for “allowing India to produce whatever they wish”.

England were outplayed in the four-Test series. After winning the opening game at Chennai, the visitors lost the next three to concede the series 3-1.
