IND v ENG 2021: "Everyone deserves a home advantage"- Joe Root on criticism of Chennai pitch

IND v ENG 2021: "Everyone deserves a home advantage"- Joe Root on criticism of Chennai pitch

The four-match Test series between India and England stand level at 1-1.

Joe Root | BCCI English skipper Joe Root while addressing the complaints of the pitch in Chennai which offered turn right from Day 1 of the second Test match between India and England said that everyone deserves home advantage.

Replying to India’s first innings total of 329 runs in the second Test match, England was bundled out for just 134 runs, and following that many English pundits criticized the Chennai pitch and compared the surface at Chepauk to a beach, and said that conditions were unacceptable to Test match cricket.

Talking about the pitch in Chennai, Indian batsman Rohit Sharma earlier said that the home side deserves an advantage and they also get treated the same way on overseas tours.

“This is what home or advantage means. Otherwise, remove home or away advantage. Tell ICC that there should be a rule which should be followed and the same kind of pitches should be made in India and away from India also," Rohit Sharma said on Sunday.

Addressing the same English captain Joe Root said something similar to what Rohit Sharma stated and made his views clear by saying that everyone team deserves home advantage.

"Everyone deserves home advantage, I do believe that. Wherever you go in the world, it's going to be difficult and I quite like that. It's one of the intricacies of Test cricket and makes it such a beautiful game. You're going to have to have a well-rounded squad of players," Joe Root was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.

Root said the assortment of different playing conditions in different countries makes Test cricket very special.

"How different Tests in England, Australia, and India can be, is what makes it very special. What makes touring the world so interesting is you have those different challenges and, if you want to be successful, you have to have an abundance of skills to manage wherever you go,” he said.

Root further said that it wasn’t a great pitch but they didn't deserve to win either and added that if England has to become the No.1 side in the world they should manage to play in every condition.

"In terms of last week, I don't think it was a brilliant pitch but I don't think we deserved to win, either. I don't think the toss determined it. If we're going to become the No. 1 side in the world, we're going to have to manage that better," he concluded.

The four-match Test series between India and England stand level at 1-1 and the remaining two Tests will be played at the New Sardar Patel Stadium in Motera, Ahmedabad.
