IND v ENG 2021: "Kohli shouldn't be allowed to play 3rd Test," says David Lloyd over argument with umpire

Virat Kohli was seen engaging in an argument with on-field umpire Nitin Menon over an LBW decision.

Former England cricketer David Lloyd has criticized India captain Virat Kohli for arguing with the on-field umpire over an LBW decision on Day 3 of the second Test with England.

It was the last over of Day 3 when Akshar Patel found Joe Root's back pad in front of the wickets. There was a loud appeal for LBW but the on-field umpire Nitin Menon gave it not-out. DRS was taken by India and it showed everything against Root, except for the impact which got the umpire's call and saved him.

Kohli was not happy with the decision and he had a long chat with Menon. Lloyd didn't like the India captain's actions on the field after the decision and he slammed him for questioning the umpire's decision.

The 73-year-old doesn't think Kohli should be allowed to play the third Test in Ahmedabad. "No word of any disciplinary action against Virat Kohli then? I chuckle and I despair. Cricket is so archaic. The captain of a national team is allowed to criticize, berate, intimidate and ridicule an official on the pitch. And he was allowed to carry on playing on in the second Test!

"In any other sport, he would have been sent off the field. Kohli certainly shouldn't be playing in Ahmedabad next week," Lloyd wrote in his column in the Daily Mail.

Kohli had argued with Menon one more time on the same day. When the umpire warned him for running on the danger area of the pitch, he seemed to not like it and ran straight across the wicket to the other end.

"All it would take to show the public the severity of any offence is the introduction of yellow and red cards. This was a straight red — which would mean he misses the next three Tests. The lack of any action from match referee Javagal Srinath sitting there in his nice air-conditioned room beggars belief. Three and a half days and he has said nothing," he wrote.
