IND v ENG 2021: Cricket fraternity reacts in awe as R Ashwin slams 106 on a difficult Chennai track

Ashwin hit his fifth Test ton in India's second innings at Chepauk.

Ravichandran Ashwin | BCCIAfter taking a five-wicket haul in England’s first innings, veteran India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin displayed his class with the bat on Day 3 of the second Test against England.

The hosts were struggling at 106/6 in their second innings on a turning Chepauk track when Ashwin arrived at the crease. However, he batted with positive intent and played some gorgeous strokes to put pressure on the English bowlers.

Ashwin added 96 runs for the seventh wicket with Virat Kohli. After the Indian captain got out on 62, the off-spinner farmed the strike brilliantly to protect the tail and notched up his fifth Test ton. His knock was laced with 14 fours and 1 six.

Ashwin forged a 27-run stand for the 9th wicket with Ishant Sharma while he shared a 49-run partnership with Mohammad Siraj.

Olly Stone dismissed Ashwin for 106 but not before the latter helped his team post 286 in the second essay, setting a 482-run target for England in the fourth innings.

For his stunning display with the bat, R Ashwin received rich praise from the cricket fraternity on Twitter.
