The England cricket team created a world record by not conceding a single 'extra' in India's first innings total of 329 in the second Test match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

India's first innings, which lasted the entire first day and a few minutes on the second day, included no wides, not a single no ball, no byes, and no leg byes.

The credit for this incredible performance goes to both, the England bowlers and wicket-keeper Ben Foakes. Foakes, playing an international game in India for the first time, was excellent with his glovework on a rank turner in Chennai against spinners like Jack Leach and Moeen Ali.

India's 329 is the highest score in a Test innings that includes no runs from 'extras'. The previous best was 328 by India in Lahore, where the Indian bowlers Polly Umrigar, Gulabrai Ramchand, Ghulam Ahmed, Subhash Gupte, and Vinoo Mankad bowled 187.5 overs without conceding an extra in the Pakistani first innings.

England bowlers Stuart Broad, Olly Stone, Jack Leach, Ben Stokes, Moeen Ali, and part-timer Joe Root broke the 66-year-old and extended England's record of conceding 252 runs without extras to South Africa in Durban in 1930-31.

The English bowlers were also far better than India during the first Test of the ongoing series with the former bowling 20 extras compared to 52 by the home side. They have bettered their performance with 0 extras in the first innings of the second Test.
