It was an action packed opening day of the second Test between India and England at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Electing to bat first after winning the toss, India posted 300/6 on the board with Rohit Sharma scoring 161, his 7th Test century.

On a tricky surface with the ball doing plenty on the first day itself for the spinners, Rohit played an outstanding innings and at times it seemed he was playing on some other pitch in comparision to his teammates. Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill did not disturb the scorers, while Cheteshwar Pujara could only get 21.

Rohit was well supported by the Indian vice-captain, Ajinkya Rahane who made 67 in a partnership of 162 for the fourth wicket.

Jack Leach and Moeen Ali picked up two wickets each for England, but the visitors would be quite worried about where they stand if the pitch continues to get worse. They did well to pick up three wickets in the final session and would hope to wrap up the Indian innings first thing on Sunday morning. Rishabh Pant (33*) and debutant Akshar Patel (5*) are at the crease with the bowlers to follow for India.

In the 87th over of the innings, which turned out to be the penultimate over of the day, Rishabh Pant decided to take his own sweet time to try and ensure England don't get another over in before close of play. Irked by Pant, Ben Stokes, who was standing at first slip said a few words to the wicketkeeper-batsman, who refused to face the next ball till the chatter stopped.

At the end of the over, Stokes and Pant exchanged a few words and were getting quite close to each other, before the umpires intervened before the matter escalated.

Olly Stone eventually bowled the final over of the day which Pant safely negotiated to seal India's day.

Former India opener Wasim Jaffer also reacted to the incident with a Bollywood reference.
