Former Australian spinner Brad Hogg expects Indian opener, Rohit Sharma to return back to scoring ways and said that despite Sharma’s ongoing low series of scores in Test cricket, he doesn’t see him getting dropped from the team ahead of the second Test against England.

Debuting for Indian as a Test opener in 2019, Rohit Sharma set the stage on fire as the opener amassed 529 runs at an average of 132.25 with two hundreds and one double hundred to his name in the four innings he played and cemented his place as an opener in the Test setup for Team India.

However, in his last seven innings, the flamboyant opener has managed to score only a solitary fifty and has been in talks for his poor form of runs.

Reflecting on Sharma’s poor form of run, former Australian spinner Brad Hogg backed him and said Sharma is a phenomenal player and he's expecting a big score from him in the second Test match against England.

“No, I don't see him (Rohit Sharma) being dropped. Remember against South Africa off late he just scored three hundreds and one of those a double hundred. He is a phenomenal batsman. Don't write him off yet, I am expecting a big score in the second Test match from him," Brad Hogg said.

Hogg further pointed that England has a very good pace attack against Rohit’s technique and said that Rohit must learn to leave balls outside off-stump.

"The only issue I have with Rohit Sharma is that they (England) have a very good pace attack against his technique. He does play away from his body. Anderson swings the ball away, but Jofra Archer also gets the movement but with extra bounce and pace. Sharma has got to learn to leave the ball outside off-stump," he said.

In the first Test match between India and England Rohit Sharma scored 6 runs in the first innings as England speed merchant Jofra Archer got the better of him before the premier batsman was outfoxed by spinner Jack Leach for 12 runs in the 2nd innings at Chennai.

The second Test match between India and England will be played at the MA Chidambaram stadium from February 13.
