IND v ENG 2021: Cricket fraternity reacts as England wins the first Test by 227 runs in Chennai

India had resumed their innings on 39/1, but Jack Leach hurt the home side soon, as Cheteshwar Pujara fell for 15 runs, caught by Stokes. Shubman Gill scored his first Test fifty at home but soon was clean bowled by James Anderson, who started to swing the ball viciously and even got movement off the pitch as well.

Anderson continued a demolition job as he sent back Ajinkya Rahane for a duck and then removed Rishabh Pant, who had scored 11 runs. Pant was caught by Joe Root on a mistimed drive. This left India teetering on 110/5, which became 117/6 when 1st innings’ hero Washington Sundar fell for a duck to Dom Bess.

Virat Kohli was the lone ranger, scoring 72 runs in 104 balls and along with R Ashwin who stuck around for 46 balls, scoring 9 runs, gave India hopes of an SCG Test redo.

Virat Kohli made 72 runs | BCCIBut Jack Leach got Ashwin caught behind by Jos Buttler and then Ben Stokes produced a special delivery to clean bowl Virat Kohli, which ended all hopes India had of saving the match.

Eventually, India folded for 192 and lost the match by 227 runs. For England, Jack Leach was the best bowler with 4/76, while James Anderson took 3/17. Archer, Bess, and Stokes picked a wicket each.

England goes 1-0 up in the 4-match Test series and gained 30 points, as well as they, look to qualify for the final of the World Test Championship.

The cricket fraternity was praiseful of Joe Root and his England team’s performance in the whole match, as they dominated starting from the toss and didn’t give the Indian team an inch.
