India skipper Virat Kohli showed a good gesture after his counterpart Joe Root was down with a cramp on the opening day of the first Test at Chepauk. The England captain slog-sweeped R Ashwin for a six in the 87th over and suffered a cramp.

Kohli showcased his sportsmanship and helped out the opponent captain by stretching his leg. He got appreciated by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on social media through an Instagram post.

They posted the picture and wrote, "When England captain Joe Root was struck by cramps, Virat Kohli was the first to his aid. A heart-warming Spirit of Cricket gesture"

England bowler Stuart Broad dropped a cheeky comment on the post, asking for a mention from ICC too for sportsmanship. Broad jokingly said he deserves the spirit of cricket award for running in with drinks.

"I ran a drink out too, spirit of cricket award?", he replied to the post. Broad is not playing the first Test against India in Chennai.

English captain Root had also lauded Kohli for his gesture after the first day's play.

"Yeah, I am ready for more tomorrow...hopefully get back, a bit frustrating, very kind of Virat (Kohli) to help me out (with cramps), good sportsmanship from him...It's just like a long day and then after a few overs I get some fluids and cooled down," Root said in the press conference.
