India's wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav had to sit out for the first Test against England in Chennai. India is playing with three spinners but Kuldeep couldn't find a spot.
R Ashwin, Washington Sundar, and Shahbaz Nadeem are the three spinners who made it to the playing XI. Before the match, Akshar Patel got ruled out of the first Test because of injury. It brought the left-arm off-spinner Nadeem in the team.
Kuldeep has last played a Test match for India back in 2019 against Australia. He was picked in the squad for Australia tour 2020-21 as well, but couldn't get an opportunity despite many players getting injured.
