Indian superstar batsman and captain Virat Kohli is just one century away from breaking the legendary former Australian captain Ricky Ponting's world record of 41 international hundreds as captain. While the Indian might have a lot to achieve as a leader, he definitely has scaled the batting prowess of Ponting.

Ricky Ponting captained Australia and ICC World XI in a total of 324 international matches from 2002 to 2012. He scored 15,440 runs as the leader of the side and recorded a total of 41 hundreds. 40 of those have come for Australia as the remaining one came in the only game he captained an ICC World XI.

On the other hand, Virat Kohli has registered 41 hundreds as captain too (all for India), despite playing only 188 matches. In that period, he has amassed 11,811 runs. The Indian captain will be eager to register a three-figure score soon as he been on the longest run in his international career without one.

The last time he scored an international century was against Bangladesh in India's first-ever Day/Night Test match in Kolkata in November 2019. It has been over 14 months since that game and the fans are waiting for a Kohli-masterclass ever since.

Overall in his international career, Kohli has scored 70 international hundreds in 423 matches while Ponting has 71 in 560 games.

They are currently placed third and second respectively in the list of most international hundreds with Indian batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar sitting at the top with a world record 100 international hundreds.

Virat Kohli will lead Team India for the 189th time when they come out to play a Test against England in Chennai from Friday, February 5.
