IND v ENG 2021: Virat Kohli on the verge of breaking two big records during England Test series

The much-awaited Test series between India and England will start on February 5 in Chennai.

While India defeated Australia 2-1 to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Down Under, England whitewashed Sri Lanka 2-0 in their own backyard.

Team India won in Australia without their regular skipper Virat Kohli, who was on paternity leave. But now that Kohli is back at the helm of affairs, he will be keen on continuing his dominance in the four-match Test series versus England.

The Indian captain is on the verge of breaking a few Test records as well. Virat will look to surpass MS Dhoni in an elite list and become the most successful Indian captain at home.

Notably, Kohli has captained India to 20 Test wins at home while Dhoni holds the record for most wins as captain on Indian soil (21). If India manage to beat England in two of the four Tests, Kohli will head the list with 22 victories.

Virat Kohli, who has 5,220 Test runs to his name as captain, is also on the cusp of breaking another record. He needs 14 more runs to overtake Clive Lloyd’s tally and became the fourth highest run-scorer in the longest format as skipper. Graeme Smith (8,659), Allan Border (6,623), and Ricky Ponting (6,542) are holding the top three spots in this elite list.

India will host England in a full-fledged bilateral series, comprising 4 Tests, 5 T20Is and 3 ODIs.

The first Test will be held in Chennai from February 5-9. The second Test will be at the same venue from February 13-17 before the action moves to Ahmedabad for the last two Tests (February 24-28 and March 4-8).

After the Test series, Ahmedabad will host five T20Is from March 12 March 20 while the three-match ODI series will be played in Pune from March 23 to March 28.
