IND v ENG 2021: Michael Vaughan expresses displeasure over England's squad selection for first two Tests

Vaughan took a dig at the selectors for dropping the in-form batsman Jonny Bairstow.

England selectors left out Jonny Bairstow for the first two Tests against India | GettyFormer skipper Michael Vaughan on Saturday (January 23) expressed his displeasure over England's team selection for the opening two Tests against India.

England openers, Zak Crawley and Dom Sibley, have been found wanting in the ongoing Test series against Sri Lanka but still managed to retain their places in England's Test squad that will take on India in the first two Tests in Chennai

On the other hand, Jonny Bairstow, who has impressed one and all while batting at No. 3 on Sri Lanka's spin-friendly pitches, has been axed from the 16-man squad.

Taking to Twitter, Vaughan took a dig at the selectors for dropping the "only top three player" who has done well in the ongoing Test series against Sri Lanka

"The only player in England's Top 3 that's playing the sub-continent conditions with any control or calmness is resting for the first 2 Tests against the best Team in world at home #India !!! The world is officially mad... #SLvENG," Vaughan tweeted.

India will host England in a full-fledged bilateral series, comprising 4 Tests, 5 T20Is and 3 ODIs.

The first Test will be held in Chennai from February 5-9. The second Test will be at the same venue from February 13-17 before the action moves to Ahmedabad for the last two Tests (February 24-28 and March 4-8).

After the Test series, Ahmedabad will host five T20Is from March 12 March 20 while the three-match ODI series will be played in Pune from March 23 to March 28.

England squad for first two Tests:

Joe Root (captain), Jofra Archer, Moeen Ali, James Anderson, Dom Bess, Stuart Broad, Rory Burns, Jos Buttler, Zak Crawley, Ben Foakes, Dan Lawrence, Jack Leach, Dom Sibley, Ben Stokes, Olly Stone, Chris Woakes.

Reserves: James Bracey, Mason Crane, Saqib Mahmood, Matthew Parkinson, Ollie Robinson, Amar Virdi.
