Dew under lights was a major threat as India strived to defend the target of 175 runs in the T20I series-decider against Bangladesh in Nagpur on Sunday (November 10). However, Deepak Chahar seemed unfazed as he ended up with record-breaking figures of 6/7 in India's 30-run win.

But self-admittedly, after the game, Chahar said it wouldn't have been possible had he not countered such circumstances playing for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL under MS Dhoni's captaincy.

"Playing in Chennai, I have now realised how to counter dew and sweat. How to keep my hands clean. At times, rub dry soil in your hands and then bowl (so that hands don't get slippery)," he told Yuzvendra Chahal in BCCI's post-game interview special Chahal TV.

While dew was a genuine threat, the long boundaries at the VCA stadium and the surface offering uneven bounce did help to an extent.

"Since the side boundaries (at VCA Stadium) were big and that was the plan that we will have to force the batsman to play shots on the sides. I also wanted to vary the pace as the ball was getting wet because of the dew and it was difficult to grip," Chahar explained.

The 27-year-old Rajasthan pacer's effort on the day included a wonderful hat-trick that made him the first Indian male to do so in T20Is.

"Came to know in the end that I got a hat-trick since I got the first wicket off the last ball of previous over," he said. "Even if you sit back at home and dream, you will not think that in four overs, you will get six wickets for 7 runs."

On the day, also stand-in captain Rohit Sharma used Deepak judiciously, keeping in mind he is the most experienced bowler available up his sleeves behind only Chahal.

"I've just been wanting to work hard. It's all God's help that I'm here. Today the plan was to bowl upfront with the new ball. I was told I'll be bowling the crucial overs. Happy the team management gave me that responsibility," the pacer concluded.
