Delhi's air quality has recorded its worst-ever rating post Diwali and premier off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin feels its a situation of "emergency" leading upto the first T20I between India and Bangladesh in the national capital on Sunday (November 3).

The air quality index read 427 at 6.30 am in the city, which is just less bad than how it was in the nearby satellite towns of Ghaziabad (496), Greater Noida (496), and Noida (499).

"The quality of air in Delhi is really scary, the oxygen we breathe is the basic requisite for mankind on this planet. This indeed is emergency," Ashwin wrote on Twitter.

Paddy burning in neighbouring northern states like Haryana and Punjab coupled with cracker burning during Diwali celebrations have badly affected the air. Making it practically impossible for players to breathe comfortably let alone getting involved in strenuous activity on the field.

Many Bangladeshi players were seen wearing masks to tackle to the air during the training sessions ahead of the match.

However, the game will go ahead, with BCCI president Sourav Ganguly confirming the green signal after talks with stand-in India captain Rohit Sharma.

"The BCCI President checked with Rohit. The team is comfortable and the players are not facing any problem after a full-on training session on Friday. In fact, there is an optional training even on the eve of the match on Saturday. The skipper has given thumbs up to the BCCI chief," a BCCI source close to the matter was quoted as saying by IANS

Even Bangladesh coach Russell Domingo and India batting coach Vikram Rathour have said the situation is what it is and the two teams are focussing solely on preparations for the game.
