Former India captain Bishan Singh Bedi is not in favor of hosting the first T20 International of the three-match series between India and Bangladesh in Delhi on November 3 after the Air Quality Index (AQI) crossed the 400-mark on Wednesday (October 30) in the capital.

According to the AQI standards, 0-50 is considered good, 51-100 is satisfactory, 101-200 is moderate, 201-300 is poor, 301-400 is very poor, while above 400 is severe and is considered seriously harmful for the health and above 500 comes under the emergency category. The rapid spike in Delhi's air quality index after Diwali has become a cause of concern, as many have requested the BCCI to consider moving the match from the Arun Jaitley stadium.

Taking to Twitter on Wednesday, the legendary spinner has expressed his serious reservation over hosting the first Bangladesh T20I at the 'hazardous air quality' in Delhi.

Bedi wrote on Twitter: “In the present state of 'hazardous air quality' in Delhi Let's spare a thought for Ind/B'Desh teams having to play T-20 on 3rd Nov at Kotla...Let's accept our man-made frailties w/Mother Nature..& ask does Delhi deserve any sporting event o International standard at all..?!!!.”

Despite the prevailing and steadily deteriorating air, the Indian cricket board (BCCI) decided to not change the venue for the match hoping “things will get better in the next couple of day”.

However, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal was confident that the pollution will not come in the way of India-Bangladesh match as the first-class games were played in the city recently.

Kejriwal told reporters at the Delhi Secretariat, “I hope that pollution will not come in the way of cricket. To reduce pollution, we are also implementing the odd-even scheme from November 4. I have seen that in this season, matches have been played earlier as well. The match should be played in Delhi.”
