Indian team is without a vice-captain for the last two Tests of the four-Test Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 after KL Rahul was relieved of the responsibility by the BCCI when the squad for the Indore and Ahmedabad Tests was announced.
This has led to Captain Rohit Sharma seeking advice from senior players on the field, like when Cheteshwar Pujara was leading the team briefly when Rohit was off the field.
Interestingly on day 5, Virat Kohli acted as a virtual ‘vice-captain', helping Rohit devise a strategy with Akshar Patel as India looked to get the better of Australian batters in the morning session of the Ahmedabad Test.
Akshar Patel and Rohit were seen discussing the areas where the ball needs to be pitched. The discussion seems to have been held during the break period between two overs. Then Virat Kohli joined the discussion and offered his two cents while advising Akshar and Rohit on an area of the pitch to bowl on.
