The pitches served for the first three Tests of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia created quite a stir across the cricketing world.
While the surfaces for the first two Tests in Nagpur and Delhi received “average” rating, the strip for the third Test in Indore was rated “poor” by the International Cricket Council.
With all three Tests getting over inside three days, Australia’s former cricketer and their media also came down heavily on the turning tracks.
Amid the criticism, Indian batting legend Sunil Gavaskar slammed the Australian media over the reports that targeted the pitch used in the first three Tests.
He also questioned the ex-Australian players about their unnecessary noise on the Indian tracks.
"Steve Smith has actually said that he enjoys playing and captaining in India because every delivery is a challenge, every over things can change quite quickly. The current Australian players have not said anything but the noise that has been coming from some of the former players, that's been a bit disturbing. Considering that we are entering an era of 75 years of India-Australia friendship, some of the ex-players from Australia could not use words that are not quite tasteful," Gavaskar told India Today.
Sunil Gavaskar also expressed his fury over Australian media’s use of words like skulduggery while criticising the pitches.
"The pitch was the same for both. Play and accept that when you come overseas, you are not going to get pitches like at home, but do not use words like skullduggery, doubting the integrity of the Indians. No country can have a monopoly on integrity and honesty, Let's get this absolutely straight. I am a very proud Indian. When somebody casts doubt on Indians and myself, I will speak my mind," he added.
The fourth and final Test between India and Australia is currently being held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
