IND v AUS 2023: WATCH – Rohit Sharma survives twice in first over as Australia decide against taking review

The third Test between India and Australia got underway in Indore on March 1.

Rohit Sharma | ScreengrabThe third Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test between India and Australia got off to a dramatic start in Indore on Wednesday (March 1) as host skipper Rohit Sharma survived twice in the opening over.

On the first ball of the match against Mitchell Starc, Rohit found a faint outside edge that went straight to wicketkeeper Alex Carey. While the Aussie fielders made a big appeal, umpire Nitin Menon didn’t raise his finger.

After a discussion with the bowler and keeper, Australia’s stand-in skipper Steve Smith decided against taking the review but it was later confirmed that there was a spike on the UltraEdge.

On the fourth delivery of the first over, Starc got the ball to swing in and it brushed Rohit’s back pad on the way to Carey. An appeal for LBW was made but umpire Menon once again remained unmoved. In a repeat, Australia decided not to take the review but the ball-tracking technology showed three reds in the next over.

Coming to the match, India made two changes to their playing XI for the third Test. While Shubman Gill replaced KL Rahul in the line-up, the home team rested veteran pacer Mohammad Shami and brought in Umesh Yadav for the game.

Having won the first two Tests in Nagpur and Delhi, the Rohit Sharma-led side has already taken an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the four-match series.
