IND v AUS 2023: “Why did you finish the match in 3 days?” Ashwin reveals interesting chat with a person on flight after 2nd Test

India won the first two Tests in Nagpur and Delhi inside three days.

R Ashwin | GettyTeam India are dominating Australia in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy at home as they won the first two Tests inside three days.

While the hosts thrashed Australia by an innings and 132 runs in the opening Test in Nagpur, they won the second game in Delhi by six wickets.

Ahead of the third Test, slated to get underway in Indore from March 1, veteran India spinner R Ashwin shared an interesting chat with a co-passenger during his flight journey from Delhi after the completion of the second Test.

Ashwin said that the person expressed his disappointment over the early finish to the Tests in the highly-anticipated series.

"I thought if we can manage to get 5 wickets in the first session, we can manage to chase somewhere around 150-160. It was going on in my mind. In the end, they were bowled out before the end of the first session, before the wicket could get better," Ashwin stated in his YouTube show.

"I met someone on the flight who asked 'You guys, why did you finish the match in 3 days? I feel sad'," he added.

The off-spinner also revealed his response to the co-passenger, saying that the mindset of the batters have changed when it comes to choosing between playing long knocks and scoring quick runs.

"Sir, two things have changed. One is the mentality of the cricketers. They want to play fast-paced these days. They want to score runs quickly’,” Ashwin said.

“Cricketers these days don’t want to take time and then score runs. But just because of that, we should not compare both approaches and judge who is better. We should never compare across generations.

"Secondly, both of these games shouldn’t have ended in 3 days,” the off-spinner further told the person," he further remarked.

Australian batters have looked far from being comfortable against the Indian spinners in the first two Tests. The experienced duo of Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin have taken 31 of Australia’s 40 wickets as the visitors’ four innings have folded for 177, 91, 263 and 113 in Nagpur and Delhi.
