Star India batter Virat Kohli may not have registered a big score in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, but he looked in fine touch in the second Test in Delhi.
On a slow and low Kotla pitch, Kohli scored 44 in the first innings followed by a 20-run knock in the second dig. In fact, the former India skipper was looking set for a big one in the first essay before a questionable umpiring decision led to his downfall.
While Virat couldn’t end his Test century drought in Delhi, he achieved a huge milestone on Day 3 of the second Test.
The prolific right-hander became the fastest to reach 25000 international runs, surpassing the record of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. Kohli accomplished the feat in 549 innings whereas Tendulkar had taken 577 innings to achieve the same.
Speaking to Star Sports, former India opener Gautam Gambhir heaped praise on Virat Kohli for his staggering world record.
"I don't know about the list but the best part of Virat Kohli is that he has performed the same in India and in Australia, in South Africa. There will be an Australia or a South African in the list but you have to compare their numbers in the subcontinent as well. Kohli is a master of the 50-overs format but in Test cricket too he has scored 27 hundreds, and 28 fifties. He has centuries in England, Australia, South Africa, West Indies. What more can you achieve?” stated Gambhir.
"Scoring 25 thousand runs is no joke. He has seen a lot of ups and downs but has remained consistent. Your game goes through a lot of changes. Your stance changes, your technique changes, your strengths and weaknesses change, your mode of dismissals become different, your emotions change and if you can factor in all of that, control all these things and score these many runs then you are a great," he added.
Virat Kohli will be next seen in action in the third Test against Australia, scheduled to be played in Indore from March 1.
