Kohli had also dropped two catches of Smith in the match.

Virat Kohli dropped Smith for second time in the Test | TwitterFormer India captain Virat Kohli had a poor outing in slips in the first Test against Australia in Nagpur which the hosts won by innings and 132 runs. He dropped David Warner in the second innings and also let go of Steve Smith in the match.

Kohli had missed two catches in 1st innings, including one when he dropped Smith when he was slow to react to the ball which came at him at some pace and was criticized for the same by former Australia cricketer Mark Waugh, who is considered to be one of the best at slips.

India’s innings folded for 400 on day three and Australia crumbled in their second innings, it began with wickets of openers Usman Khawaja and David Warner, both of whom fell to R Ashwin.

In the sixth over of the Australia second innings, Ashwin got David Warner to edge one to the slips as he tried to defend the ball. It was a regulation catch as the ball went at a decent height, but Virat Kohli in slips made a meal of an easy catch.

He was late to react as the ball bounced off his wrist. Kohli threw his hands to grab it but tumbled over as the ball fell on the ground.

After he dropped the catch of Warner, Gavaskar was heard on commentary saying: “He was just a little too anxious to complete the catch." while Shastri said on Rohit and Ashwin, who was left visibly disappointed, saying, “both can't believe it.”

This left both Ashwin and captain Rohit Sharma in disbelief as Kohli gave life to David Warner, but it didn't cost India much as he was out for 10 runs, LBW to Ashwin.
