IND v AUS 2023: WATCH – Dravid’s animated celebration after Khawaja’s wicket; Shami knocks over Warner with a ripper

India reduced Australia to 2/2 after being asked to bowl first.

Rahul Dravid | BCCI/ScreengrabIndia head coach Rahul Dravid, who is known for his calm and composed demeanour, erupted in an animated celebration after Mohammed Siraj dismissed Usman Khawaja to give the hosts their first breakthrough on Day 1 of the opening Test against Australia in Nagpur.

Siraj, bowling his first over of the match, produced an outswinger to hit Khawaja’s pads. A loud lbw appeal followed but umpire Nitin Menon didn't raise the finger, which led to Siraj persuading skipper Rohit Sharma to go upstairs.

Rohit consulted with wicketkeeper KS Bharat and opted for DRS. The ball tracker showed three reds as Khawaja walked back to the pavilion after scoring 1 off 3 balls.

The wicket via DRS saw the home team roaring in jubilation and coach Dravid also celebrated with passion while sitting in the dressing room.

In the very next over, Mohammad Shami struck for India, castling David Warner with a peach of a delivery for just 1 off 5 balls.

After Warner’s dismissal, the visitors found themselves reeling at 2/2 after 2.1 overs. Earlier, Australia skipper Pat Cummins won the toss and elected to bat first.

The tourists handed an international debut cap to off-spinner Todd Murphy on a Nagpur pitch expected to assist the spinners.
