Team India have called up two off-spinners, Jayant Yadav and Pulkit Narang, to their ongoing camp in Nagpur ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, Cricbuzz reported.
While Jayant has represented India in Test cricket, Narang is currently associated with the Services team. Their inclusion has bolstered the team's net bowling crew, which already features the likes of Washington Sundar, Saurabh Kumar, Rahul Chahar and R Sai Kishore.
The addition of six net spinners indicates that spin-friendly surfaces will be dished out during the four-match Test series and the Indian batters want to leave no stone unturned in their preparations to counter the Australian tweakers, especially the veteran off-spinner Nathan Lyon.
Besides Lyon, Australia have picked Ashton Agar, Mitchell Swepson and uncapped Todd Murphy as spin-bowling options in their 18-member squad for the India tour.
The forthcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy is important for India with respect to the WTC final. The Rohit Sharma-led side needs to win at least three Tests in the series to qualify for the final, due to be held at the Oval in June 2023.
The highly-anticipated Test series between India and Australia is slated to get underway on February 9 in Nagpur. Delhi will host the second Test from February 17 while Dharamshala and Ahmedabad will stage the third and fourth Tests from March 1 and March 9, respectively.
India's squad for the first two Tests against Australia: Rohit Sharma (Captain), KL Rahul (vice-captain), Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, KS Bharat (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), R Ashwin, Akshar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammad Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Jaydev Unadkat, Suryakumar Yadav.
