IND v AUS 2023: Visa delay forces Australia batter Usman Khawaja to miss his flight to India

Usman Khawaja's visa is likely to arrive later on February 1.

Usman Khawaja | GettyAustralia batter Usman Khawaja couldn’t board the team’s flight to India on Wednesday (February 1) for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy due to a visa delay, Cricket Australia (CA) said.

A CA spokesman said the southpaw was the only player in Australia’s squad to miss the flight since his visa had not arrived on time.

CA expects the visa to arrive later on Wednesday and said Khawaja will depart for India on Thursday (February 2).

Frustrated by the turn of events, Usman Khawaja shared a popular meme on Instagram, in which a man can be seen sitting on a garden chair staring into space.

“Me waiting for my Indian Visa like… #stranded #dontleaveme #standard #anytimenow,” he wrote in the caption.

Usman Khawaja is a key player for Australia, having amassed 1080 Test runs at an impressive average of 67.50 with 4 hundreds and five fifties last year.

The highly-anticipated Test series between India and Australia is slated to get underway on February 9 in Nagpur. Delhi will host the second Test from February 17 while Dharamshala and Ahmedabad will stage the third and fourth Tests from March 1 and March 9, respectively.
