Former Australia pacer Jason Gillespie recently shared his thoughts on the upcoming four-Test Border-Gavaskar Trophy series between India and Australia which begins in Nagpur on February 9. This series will determine the finalists of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship 2023.
Gillespie, who toured India multiple times, said that he is really looking forward to seeing Virat Kohli face Pat Cummins, adding that it’s going to be a fantastic match-up to watch. He said that watching these two great cricketers will be great theatre, insisting that these are two wonderful cricketers at the top of their game.
“He will get his due”- BCCI selector Sridharan Sharath on Sarfaraz Khan’s continuous snub
"I am really looking forward to seeing (Virat) Kohli vs Cummins. That's a fantastic match-up. It will be interesting to see how they go. When Virat comes out to bat, I would love to see Cummins take the ball and go at him straight away. That will be great theatre, two wonderful cricketers at the top of their game,” Gillespie told Hindustan Times.
He also said that while Mitchell Starc could get the ball to reverse swing late in the day, India should be wary of the threat possessed by Josh Hazelwood and Cummins, saying that the two are equally good with the old ball.
"Starc is obviously a left-armer and does get it to reverse very late. But Hazlewood and Cummins are equally good. They can all have a real impact with the old ball,” said Gillespie.
Gillespie also had good words for all-rounder Cameron Green saying that he could be awkward for the Indian batters to face and he might also reverse swing the ball in the series.
“Watch out for Green too. He can be a really awkward customer for the Indian batsmen. I think we will see the ball reverse swinging in this series,” Gillespie added.
