India beat Australia by 8 runs in a last over thriller at VCA Stadium in Nagpur and took an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the five ODIs series with three matches to go. Earlier, on a tricky track Australia opted to field first after winning the toss and Pat Cummins gave them a perfect start by removing Rohit Sharma for a six balls duck in the first over. Shikhar Dhawan played a few shots and looked good but Glenn Maxwell removed him too.

Ambati Rayudu also perished off Nathan Lyon's bowling and India were reduced to 75/3 in 17 overs. But captain Virat Kohli was rock solid at the other end and first he added 81 runs with Vijay Shankar and 67 runs with Ravindra Jadeja and pulled things back and also brought up his 40th ODI hundred. After Kohli's dismissal, India could add only 2 runs to their total and got bowled out for 250 runs in the 49th over. Pat Cummins took 4 wickets for Australia.

In the chase, Usman Khawaja and Aaron Finch gave a fantastic start of 83 runs and put India on backfoot but Kuldeep Yadav and Kedar Jadhav sent back both the openers at that score in the span of seven balls and brought India back into the game. Peter Handscomb and Shaun Marsh's 39 runs stand was looking threatning but Ravindra Jadeja removed Shaun Marsh and Kuldeep Yadav sent Maxwell back to pavilion and reduced Australia to 132/4 in the 29th over.

Peter Handscomb and Marcus Stoinis rebuilt the innings and took the score to 171/4 but Ravindra Jadeja's brilliant fielding ended Handscomb innings for 48 runs. After that Stoinis and Alex Carey played their shots and almost took the match away from India as they needed only 32 runs in the last 6 overs with 5 wickets in hand, but first Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Alex Carey and in the following over Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Nathan Coulter-Nile and Pat Cummins.

In the last over, Australia needed 11 runs but Vijay Shankar sent Stoinis back to pavilion on his first ball of the over and later also dismissed Adam Zampa and thus Australia was bowled out for 242 runs and lost the match by 8 runs.
