Indian batsman Shikhar Dhawan created history on the first day of India vs Afghanistan Test at Bengaluru. Dhawan became the first Indian and overall sixth batsman to score a ton in the first season of a Test match's first day.

Taking on the Afghanistan bowlers, he reached the century in just 87 balls. But the southpaw had no idea he has added another record by his name.

"Scoring a century in a single session is a great thing. I didn't know no Indian batsman had done that," he said.

Dhawan said he was in a positive mindset and ready to express himself on the field. "I thought I hadn't scored a T20 century, so why not do it here. I was in good mindset (before the Test), knew what I had to do out there, and things went my way. I was focusing on my fitness between the IPL and this game.. didn't really bat that much.

"It was disappointing to get out the way I did, but I had been scoring my runs playing the same way, so it's better to get out plating a shot rather than defending," Dhawan said.

India is in a very strong position in the only Test. They scored 474 runs in the first innings till the lunch on the second day. For Ajinkya Rahane-led team, other than Dhawan, Murali Vijay scored 105, his third consecutive hundred at home. KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya also managed to add their half-centuries to the total.

But the comeback by Afghanistan in the last session of the first day ensured the hosts get restricted under 500.
