Afghanistan are all set to start their journey as a Test playing nation, when they will take on the No.1 ranked India in the one-off Test match in Bengaluru on June 14.

In June 2017, Afghanistan along with Ireland, who have already played their maiden Test against Pakistan last month, were granted Test status by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Ahead of the historic Test match, legendary India spinner Anil Kumble has hailed the young spin sensations of Afghanistan – Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman.

“It’s fantastic to see two young Afghanistan spinners bamboozle world batsmen,” Kumble told AFP.

“Both Rashid and Mujeeb are extremely talented and if they get it right they are certainly capable of testing… Indian or any batsmen,” he added.

Playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rashid finished the IPL 2018 campaign as the second highest wicket-taker with 21 scalps from 17 matches, whereas Mujeeb claimed 14 wickets in 11 games for Kings XI Punjab.

While the duo have proved their mettle in the shortest format, they are yet to be tested in five-day games. Rashid has the experience of only four first-class matches whereas Mujeeb is yet to make his first-class debut.

“It will be interesting to see how they go, because bowling four overs and bowling to get wickets in a Test match is totally different,” Kumble concluded.
