Pakistan struggled despite England fielding their second-string side in the match. They handed debut cap to five players in the ODI series opener, as the new-look squad was picked after their full-strength side needed to be isolated due to COVID-19 cases in the camp.

After the game, former England skipper Michael Vaughan took to Twitter and termed Pakistan’s outing as 'pathetic'.

"For England to rock up only yesterday as a team & perform like they did tells us so much about the culture of the white ball team .. very, very impressive .. for Pakistan they were PATHETIC .. It’s the only way to describe a performance like that," Vaughan tweeted.

In another tweet, posted after the end of Pakistan’s innings, Vaughan wrote: "Love watching Pakistan play Cricket... A team that can beat any team in the world on any given day but also lose to any team on any given day."

Disappointed by his team’s performance, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam, while speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, said: "Credit to England for this. We didn't get momentum, or a big partnership. Fakhar carried his form on from South Africa. We are looking forward to Lord's and we have to try and do our best."

The second ODI is due to be held at Lord’s on Saturday (July 10).
