England defeated Pakistan by 9 wickets in the first ODI of the three-match series on Thursday (July 8). It was a one-sided win by the hosts as Pakistan got bowled out on a paltry score of 141 runs. In reply, England chased down the target in the 22nd over after Dawid Malan (68*) and Zak Crawley (58*) posted an unbeaten partnership of 120 runs for the second wicket.

Pakistan struggled despite England fielding their second-string side in the match. They handed debut cap to five of their players in the first ODI. A new squad was picked, which is led by Ben Stokes after their full-strength side needed to be isolated due to COVID-19 cases in the camp.

But despite a poor outing in the first match, Pakistan captain Babar Azam told his teammates not to worry. Speaking in the post-match presentation, Babar said, it was an off day for them and it isn't a confidence breaker defeat for them.

The 26-year-old added that he would talk to his boys and motivate them before the next match. "Ghabrana nahi hain (no need to worry)," said the Pakistan captain to his teammates.

Pakistan has a stronger side on paper in comparison to this inexperienced English squad. But England managed to dominate the game with the new faces. The hosts played with five debutants in the first ODI; Brydon Carse, Zak Crawley, Lewis Gregory, Phil Salt, and John Simpson.
