Starc pulled up in his bowling action and told Rashid to stay in his crease.

Adil Rashid was warned by Mitchell Starc for backing up too far | ScreengrabApart from the fierce contest between bat and ball, fans witnessed a strange moment in the series-deciding third ODI between England and Australia at Old Trafford on Wednesday (September 16).

During the 49th over of England innings, Aussie speedster Mitchell Starc gave Adil Rashid a warning to get back in his crease instead of running him out at the non-striker’s end.

Just a couple of balls before, Rashid had smashed Starc for a six. The English spinner was backing too far at the non-strikers’ end in order to add as many runs as possible to the team’s tally at the end of the innings.

Starc, who could have knocked off Rashid’s bails to ‘Mankad’ him out, decided against it. Instead, the left-arm pacer pulled up in his bowling action and told Rashid to stay in his crease.

Coming to the match, Australia defeated England by three wickets to clinch the ODI series 2-1.

Chasing 303 to win, Australia’s top-order faltered badly before the duo of Glenn Maxwell (108 off 90 balls) and Alex Carey (106 off 114 balls) shared a 212-run partnership for the sixth wicket to put the visitors on the brink of victory.

Needing 10 runs in the final over, Starc smashed Rashid for a six and four to seal the deal for Australia with two balls to spare.
