Following India's 336-run victory over England at Edgbaston on Sunday, Shubman Gill decided to amuse himself at the cost of a journalist during the post-match press conference.

This was the first Test victory for Team India at the location. Since none of Gill's predecessors had defeated England in Birmingham, the team wasn't trusted with the confidence that it could perform the job. Before the second game of the series, doubts were raised about the team's intentions as the management decided not to include Jasprit Bumrah in the squad.

In Edgbaston, an English journalist had even brought up India's bleak past, emphasizing that the squad had never won a single match.

Gill was eager to see the same reporter who had brought up the sour statistics in front of him at the pre-match news conference when he came to the press conference after making history.

"I can't see my favorite journalist. Where is he? I wanted to see him," Gill said, trolling the journalist during the media conference.

“I even said before the Test match that I don't really believe in history and stats. Over the last 56 years or so, we've played nine matches - different teams have come here. I believe we are the best team to have come here to England, and we have the capability to beat them, to win the series from here. If we keep making the right decisions and keep fighting, I think it would be one of the series to remember," he further said.

When the side was without its star pacer Jasprit Bumrah, the pace duo of Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep stepped up and delivered, and the India captain was full of praise for them.

"Our bowlers were magnificent. We are capable of taking 20 wickets anywhere. The consistency from both ends - Siraj, Akash, and even Prasidh - helped us win the little moments. That's what makes the difference. When the ball is soft on a flat pitch, it's tough to stop runs. With the harder ball, wickets come easier. That second new ball spell changed the game for us," he said.

Regarding his own batting performance, Gill stated that he had begun training for the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) England series.

“I started working on some things during the last phase of the IPL. We don't listen to outside noise. Opinions change every game. If your teammates trust you, that's what matters,” Gill stated.

The third Test between the two sides will begin at Lord’s from July 10 onwards.
